Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is most often experienced as heartburn but can cause other symptoms as well, including hoarseness, sore throat, laryngitis, chronic cough and asthma. Your symptoms could indeed be related to your heartburn. The best approach would be to seek help for your heartburn and explain to your health-care provider that you also have these symptoms. A careful evaluation will help determine if your sore throat and laryngitis are related to heartburn or to another cause.
